ACDelco & Holden Motorsport - Celebrating 50 years of association ACDelco is celebrating 50 years since its first association with the Holden Dealer Team back in 1968. Throughout the 70’s and 80’s the ‘AC Spark Plugs’ logo was prominent and synonymous with a succession of successful Holden race cars and icons like Brock, Harvey, Bond and Richards. “AC” Spark Plug and “Delco” (originally Dayton Engineering Laboratories COmpany) merged back in the 1970’s to form “ACDelco” and become a global force for quality automotive parts to the aftermarket industry. Fast forward to today, and “AC’s” evolution into ACDelco has come full circle, with the announcement that the Australian and NZ arm of this global giant will be joining forces with the Red Bull Holden Racing Team for the 2018 season in the Supercars Championship Series. EFB & AGM Battery Technology for Modern Cars The difference between Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM), Enhanced flooded Battery (EFB) and traditional lead acid batteries. Ensuring the correct battery technology is chosen for modern cars is more important than ever. Both the new battery and the vehicle’s electrical systems are exposed to potential damage if the wrong replacement battery is fitted. When replacing a battery there are a lot of options to choose from, so how do you know when to choose an AGM, EFB or a traditional lead acid battery? For Idle Start-Stop (ISS) vehicles, it’s important to fit the correct battery. Fitting a traditional battery will impair the Start/Stop function and noticeably reduce the battery’s life. Research shows that some conventional batteries can lose between 7% and 16% of capacity after just one week of use in a Start-Stop car. Contact Us Store Locator Battery Finder The Difference Between EFB & AGM Batteries Enhanced Flooded Battery (EFB) EFB batteries are designed to tolerate the moderate cycling of an ISS-equipped vehicle, where frequent cycling and cranking at low states of charge are required, they are a “mid-way” technology between a standard starting battery (SLI) and AGM type battery. EFB batteries are frequently used by Asian car manufacturers and some mid-range European brands due to their lower cost. They are vital for all cars originally equipped with an EFB type battery. Saturday was the first day of spring and R&J Batteries was run off their feet handling enquires and sales of batteries for mowers, boats and motorbikes. With the warmer weather now on its way, don’t leave it to the last minute to check that old boat, motorbike or mower still starts after sitting in the shed for the long cold winter. Blow the cobwebs off and try giving it a start. If the battery is flat, drop into your nearest R&J store or distributor to get your old battery checked. Batteries sitting around not in use will self-discharge meaning the battery in your old favourite may not have enough grunt left to get it started. Unfortunately in some cases a chemical process called Sulphation may also mean the battery is now past is usable best. Drop into your nearest R&J store or distributor and we’ll check out the battery and get you going again. Also remember that aside from regular use, the best way to keep you battery in tip top condition is to hook it up to a trickle or maintenance charger. R&J Batteries stock a comprehensive range of chargers so to learn more drop in and have a chat with our friendly staff.

In a recent restructure of the Australian ACDelco sales territories, R & J Batteries was given the green light to commence ACDelco sales & distribution across the wider NSW territory. Until recently R & J Batteries only had sales & distribution rights for ACDelco in the lower South East corner of the state which included Canberra. However the recent opening of the Wetherill Park (Western Sydney) has shown the commitment that R & J Batteries has to this wider market. ACDelco have repaid this commitment by granting R & J Batteries the rights to represent their product state wide. The NSW territory agreement is shared with the incumbent agreement holder and sees NSW join other states including Northern Territory, South Australia, Australian Capital Territory and Tasmania as areas that R & J Batteries proudly represent the ACDelco brand. For more information on ACDelco batteries or R & J Batteries, contact your nearest store on 1300 769 282.
