Future of ACDelco after Holden brand ceases The recent news about the Holden brand ceasing at the end of 2020 has come as a shock. Not only due to it being such an iconic brand, but also due to the very close relationship R&J Batteries has with GMH. Many friends and associates will be affected, and our thoughts are with each and every one of them. Understandably there is concern about the future of ACDelco. R&J Batteries can confirm the availability of ACDelco products is unaffected by yesterday’s announcement that General Motors will be retiring the Holden brand in Australia and New Zealand. Holden owners will continue to be supported by a national aftersales network for at least 10 years. Customers can be assured that Holden will honour all warranties and servicing agreements, as well as providing spare parts, repair, service and any required recall or field actions As part of General Motors and for over 100 years, ACDelco has been a world leader in the automotive aftermarket providing a wide range of quality products for the automotive replacement parts and service industry. Its range of batteries, spark plugs, oil, fluids and air filters, wiper blades and brake components will continue. R&J Batteries builds new Admin Centre in Ballarat

New R&J Batteries Admin Centre in Ballarat The R&J Batteries administration team are moving next door to a brand new, purpose-built administration centre. R&J Batteries are one of Australasia’s fastest growing battery companies and over the years our administration team have steadily outgrown our Head Office in Ballarat. With over 15 staff working in our Head Office team it was time to look beyond the offices above the Ballarat Store. The new Administration Centre has been custom built right beside the Ballarat store. The building will feature a reception, on-site parking, a large boardroom, workstations and plenty of office space. It was also constructed with staff health and well-being in mind with disability access, fully operational kitchen and a staff gym. Finance, Marketing and Administration will all move to the new centre, as well as some members of HR and Operations. Our staff have been very patient with the limitations of the current offices and are looking forward to shifting into the bigger, more modern complex. “We have been looking for a bigger home for our Head Office team for a while now. Having the property next door become available was a fantastic opportunity for us to custom build a facility to suit our needs, with easy access to the Ballarat store. This new centre will provide a great working environment for our employees while also allowing us to give even better service to our customers.” – Ray Robson, Managing Director Our customers across [...]

The Facts Behind Summer Battery Failure

2019-02-05T12:53:37+11:00February 5th, 2019|Battery Education, R & J Batteries, Uncategorized|

Summer Battery Failure Facts It may not be a surprise that flat or dead batteries are the number one cause of vehicle breakdowns in Australia & New Zealand. And it’s also probably not a surprise that extreme temperatures during Summer are a leading cause of battery failure. Car batteries are happiest when operating at a temperature between 50 - 300  Celsius. In Summer temperatures can easily exceed this healthy range, and we often forget that the temperature under the bonnet can be more than double the temperature outside! How Heat Affects your Car Battery Unfortunately for us, extreme heat negatively impacts your car battery. As the temperature increases, it can have a domino effect, causing heat-related symptoms including: Evaporation of water from the battery’s electrolytes, increasing concentration Battery acid becomes more corrosive as it’s heated Accelerated corrosion inside the battery Decreased battery capacity caused by corrosion of plates What does this mean? When the temperature rises, your battery heats up and water begins to evaporate out of your battery’s liquid electrolytes. This evaporation increases corrosion to the battery plates which results in a reduced capacity, cranking power and lifespan of your car’s battery. Typically, a car battery has an average lifespan of 4 - 5 years, however, exposure to high heat for extended periods can considerably reduce this life expectancy! This is particularly troublesome for people living in hot or tropical climates. How to Save your Battery This Summer There is some [...]

EFB & AGM Battery Technology for Modern Vehicles

2018-10-11T10:49:06+11:00December 19th, 2017|ACDelco, Battery History, Delkor, Delkor AGM, R & J Batteries, Technical Bulletin|

EFB & AGM Battery Technology for Modern Cars The difference between Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM), Enhanced flooded Battery (EFB) and traditional lead acid batteries. Ensuring the correct battery technology is chosen for modern cars is more important than ever. Both the new battery and the vehicle’s electrical systems are exposed to potential damage if the wrong replacement battery is fitted. When replacing a battery there are a lot of options to choose from, so how do you know when to choose an AGM, EFB or a traditional lead acid battery? For Idle Start-Stop (ISS) vehicles, it’s important to fit the correct battery. Fitting a traditional battery will impair the Start/Stop function and noticeably reduce the battery’s life. Research shows that some conventional batteries can lose between 7% and 16% of capacity after just one week of use in a Start-Stop car. Contact Us Store Locator Battery Finder The Difference Between EFB & AGM Batteries Enhanced Flooded Battery (EFB) EFB batteries are designed to tolerate the moderate cycling of an ISS-equipped vehicle, where frequent cycling and cranking at low states of charge are required, they are a “mid-way” technology between a standard starting battery (SLI) and AGM type battery. EFB batteries are frequently used by Asian car manufacturers and some mid-range European brands due to their lower cost. They are vital for all cars originally equipped with an EFB type battery. EFB Performance Benefits: 2x [...]
