GARTNER BACK IN BLACK AT RAINBOW

Two weeks after taking the Class 4 win and fourth outright in the new #410 R&J Batteries Geiser Bros Extreme 2wd Trophy Truck at the Waikerie Hotel Riverland Enduro, Greg Gartner and Jamie Jennings will be back in the hot seats this weekend at the Rainbow Desert Enduro. Just across the border from the teams Penola base, Rainbow will be a great opportunity for the crew to get more miles on the truck against a quality field, as the drivers battle it out at the final round of the 2017 CAMS BFGoodrich Australian Off Road Championship.

With very limited testing and time in the seat, I was very impressed with the truck out of the box at the Riverland Enduro and I’m happy to have locked away a good result with it on its first outing. We need to dial the suspension a bit more, but it is a lot closer than I expected it to be. If I can push a bit harder and brake a bit later we won’t be far off the pace.

Starting in twelfth after the prologue at Waikerie, Gartner won the drag race against the Wilson Jimco off the start line and quickly settled into the groove, working his way up to sixth by the mid point of the race. In the closing stages, Gartner pushed a bit harder and greeted the chequered flag in fourth outright after a solid 300+km of racing.“The truck felt good and strong and there was nothing wrong with it after the four laps at Waikerie. If it was double the kilometres up there we would have been good to go.”

If it was double the kilometres up there we would have been good to go.”“The V8, Albins transmission and the Toyo tyres were all great. It was very rocky, with lots of sharp edges at Waikerie and the tyres handled it well. It gives us the confidence to push harder.”

“The engine which was a collaboration between our long time engine builder Craig Carrison, Ray Dougan and Rick Geiser didn’t miss a beat. Ray Dougan built the engine in the US with a lot of input from Craig Carrison, as it is hard to build an engine here in Australia, send it over and have everything at the front of the engine from the pullies, to the power steering and oil pump fall into place. It was easier for it to be a joint deal with Ray and Rick putting it together there, then hand the reigns back to Craig and Troy from TZ Tuning when it came back downunder.”

“I’d like to thanks all my guys who have put the hours into the truck and also thank my sponsors R&J Batteries, Fuchs, Toyo Tyres Australia, CASE IH Agriculture, Hage Tractors, ATI Industrial, Geiser Bros, Craig Carrison Race Engines, JB Irrigation, CJM Attachments, Millicent Tyre Centre, CAPPA Motorbodies, Dirtcomp and Albins. The tight turn around has meant the new Greg Gartner Motorsport livery isn’t a wrap yet, so we’re back in black this weekend at Rainbow.”

Drop by scrutineering tonight at the Rainbow Desert Enduro to check out the new machinery before the angry Ford hits the track tomorrow for the prologue and section one of the long course. Stay tuned to our social media stream for updates as the weekend progresses.
